A citadel above the Mediterranean

Crowning the city of Eivissa, Dalt Vila is one of the best-preserved coastal fortresses in the Mediterranean. Within its Renaissance walls, whitewashed houses, cobbled lanes and a Gothic cathedral tell the story of Phoenicians, Romans, Moors and Catalans.

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, the upper town invites you to wander slowly, look up at the bell tower and out across the harbour to the sea.

UNESCO describes the upper town as “more than 2,500 years old” (World Heritage List No. 417); counted from the Phoenician foundation in 654 BC, that is roughly 2,700 years of continuous history.
